The Venture Academy Mustangs will take on the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Venture Academy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Venture Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past El Dorado 6-5.
Angel Voller was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Voller wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was David Mays, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Mays has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Hughson never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Ben Holt College Prep Academy with a sharp 15-0 win. Considering the Huskies have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Venture Academy, Hughson also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce McDaniel. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McDaniel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Carlos Guizar was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Fisher, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Hughson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Holt College Prep Academy only posted an OBP of .176.
Hughson is on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 21 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Venture Academy, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-2.
Venture Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Mustangs have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hughson, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Venture Academy continue to outrun the ball?
