Make it 15 blowout wins for the Escalon Cougars this season. They were the clear victor by a 54-30 margin over Hilmar. Given Escalon's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Hilmar is ranked 695th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Escalon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madison Babasa, who scored 13 points along with nine steals. Babasa is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sammy Lang, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Escalon's victory bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Hilmar, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Riverbank the next time they take the court. Hilmar will host Riverbank at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Escalon will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
