Rivera is 0-5 against Weslaco since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Rivera Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Weslaco Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Rivera is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Rivera fell victim to San Benito's stalwart defense two weeks ago and couldn't make it onto the board. They were dealt a 49-0 loss at the hands of the Greyhounds. While losing is never fun, Rivera can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1034th, while San Benito is ranked 307th).
Meanwhile, Weslaco put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 42-23 win over Los Fresnos. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Weslaco was the (much) better team in the second half.
Elias Rodriguez jr continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 295 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Rodriguez jr's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards.
Weslaco's win bumped their season record to 7-0 while Rivera's loss dropped theirs to 1-5.
Rivera was dealt a bruising 47-14 defeat at the hands of Weslaco in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Rivera avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
