The Hughson Huskies entered their tilt with the Hilmar Yellowjackets with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Hughson enjoyed a cozy 50-34 victory over Hilmar on Tuesday. Given Hughson's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 323rd, while Hilmar is ranked 673rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kareena Kang, who scored 15 points along with six steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Raegan Barstow, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Hilmar still got an impressive performance from Alicia Souza, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 17 rebounds, and ten steals. Souza is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Gomes, who scored four points along with 12 rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Hilmar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hughson is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Hilmar, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.
Hughson will head out on the road to square off against Riverbank at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverbank is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.9 points per game. As for Hilmar, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m.
