Silver gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Santa Teresa Desert Warriors. The Fighting Colts not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 13, 2024 (when they won 54-0).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Silver to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mekhi Grant, who rushed for 135 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries. Grant really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run. Cody Cooper was another key back, rushing for 92 yards and one TD on only nine carries.
Silver's defense stepped up as well, laying out Nicholas Vierra. four times. Santa Teresa's QB won't forget Ty Gonzalez anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Silver got some further help from Izaiden Baca: he made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).
When it comes to explaining why Santa Teresa lost, don't look at Vierra. Despite the final result, he rushed for 204 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry, and also threw for 48 yards and one touchdown.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Silver will face off against Gallup at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Teresa, they will take on Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
