After a string of seven wins, the Williamson Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 50-49 to Troy. Williamson found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 9 on offense.
Despite the loss, Williamson still got an impressive performance from Taylor Rae Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. Kenna Thomas was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals and two blocks.
Troy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kailyn Sterling, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Lackey, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Williamson's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-3. As for Troy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Williamson will square off against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Troy will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Athens will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 570th, while the Trojans are ranked 162nd).
