It was a good run, but the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Santiago by a score of 46-44. While losing is never fun, Long Beach Poly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Sharks are ranked 26th).
Long Beach Poly lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bailey Prewitt, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Prewitt has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmyne Shamburger, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Long Beach Poly's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-9. As for Santiago, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-10.
Long Beach Poly will take on the Lancers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Lakewood's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games. As for Santiago, they will head out on the road to square off against the Wolves at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
