Porter Ridge is 8-2 against Garinger since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Porter Ridge Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Garinger Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. Porter Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Garinger will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Porter Ridge has not done well against Providence recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Porter Ridge strolled past Providence with points to spare, taking the game 62-44. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Porter Ridge.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 67 points the game before, Garinger were a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They were beaten by Independence 73-25. While losing is never fun, Garinger can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while Independence is ranked fifth).
Despite the defeat, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: Imonee Patterson scored four points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Raziah Mitchell, who scored ten points.
Porter Ridge's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Garinger, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Everything came up roses for Porter Ridge against Garinger in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 as the squad secured a 64-22 win. With Porter Ridge ahead 40-8 at the half, the game was all but over already.
