The Hobbs Eagles will face off against the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hobbs knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Carlsbad likes a good challenge.
If Hobbs beats Carlsbad with 51 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Eagles breezed past Organ Mountain to the tune of 51-12 on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Junior Medrano had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 165 yards and two TDs on only nine carries, while also throwing for 148 yards and one touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 124 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Shamus Wright, who rushed for 89 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Hobbs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 313 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Justice French, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad faced Las Cruces in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cavemen/Cavegirls came up short against the Bulldawgs, falling 53-28. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 25, 2019, but that streak is no more.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in BROCK WRIGHT and Daniel Amaro. Amaro had a great game and rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries. Meanwhile, WRIGHT was balling out in the loss, rushing for 151 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries.
With the loss, Carlsbad broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4. As for Hobbs, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Hobbs beat Carlsbad 28-19 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cavemen/Cavegirls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
