It was a good run, but the North Edgecombe Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to Martin County. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, North Edgecombe still got an impressive performance from LaTraviun Parker, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Parker has scored all season. Dontrevious Whitaker was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Martin County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kel'javious Moore out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jordan Matthewson, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds.
North Edgecombe's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3. As for Martin County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
North Edgecombe will head out on the road to take on Weldon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weldon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while North Edgecombe is ranked 150th). Martin County will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bertie at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bertie is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
