High-scoring games were the norm among the nation's top small school teams as 10 teams scored 50 or more points.
One of those teams was Cardinal Ritter College Prep (St. Louis), which beat Father Tolston 72-14 and moved ahead of Grace Brethren (Simi Valley, Calif.) to take over the No. 1 spot in the MaxPrep Small Schools National Football Rankings.
Most impressive win: Lutheran North 90, Lutheran South 8. With several transfer students now eligible, the Lutheran North defense had a spectacular game. North limited Lutheran South to 31 yards passing and zero yards rushing. They also returned three interceptions for touchdowns.
Game of the Week: Lakewood 21, Madison County 20. The two teams finished tied at 14-14 in regulation. Lakewood scored first in the overtime period and added the extra point. Madison County scored and went for the two-point conversion, but fell short. The loss was the first of the year for Madison County.
Game to watch: Trinity Christian Academy vs. Booker T. Washington (Miami). Two of the best programs in Florida meet with Booker T. Washington ranked No. 9 in the state by the MaxPreps Computer rankings. BTW's only losses are to IMG Academy and Central (Miami).
Best individual performance: Lucas Coley, Cornerstone Christian (San Antonio). In a win over Bishop Lynch, Coley rushed for 182 yards and threw for 213 yards while accounting for five touchdowns.
Dropped Out: No. 12 Taylorsville (Miss.); No. 18 Newton (Texas); No. 19 Anna (Ohio); No. 21 Callaway (Hogansville, Ga.); No. 22 Hapeville Charter (Atlanta).
The Small Schools Top 25 is open to schools that generally play in enrollment divisions with less than 1,000 students. Some California schools with under 1,000 students that play in competition-based playoff divisions that mostly include large enrollment schools (such as Sierra Canyon and Grace Brethren) are also included. Teams are ranked based on their MaxPreps computer ranking, which is listed along with their current record.
