Eagle Rock and Sotomayor are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Wolves at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Eagle Rock is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Eagle Rock faced off against CALS Early College on Thursday. The Eagles blew past the Falcons 19-1. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.
Allen Alvarado looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
At the plate, Eagle Rock got a massive performance out of Grayson Sugi, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those doubles were Sugi's first of the season. Anthony Bastida was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
Eagle Rock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Sotomayor strolled into their game on Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Rancho Dominguez 3-1.
Felipe Talamante was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and only one walk). Talamante was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Talamante wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Medrano, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Eagle Rock's record now sits at 4-5. As for Sotomayor, their record is now 3-0.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Eagle Rock has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sotomayor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Eagle Rock got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2025 against Sotomayor by a conclusive 11-1 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
