After a string of 14 wins, the Portage Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 59-43 bruising from River Valley. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Portage has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Portage still got an impressive performance from Jenna Burkett, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Burkett's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Chobany, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Portage's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-1. As for River Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.
Portage will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against West Shamokin at 7:15 p.m. As for River Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Conemaugh Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Monday.
