Baseball Game Preview: Chavez Titans vs. Taft Wildcats

For the second straight game, Chavez will face off against Taft. The Titans are taking a road trip to square off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Chavez is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.

Chavez will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Taft, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Titans came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday.

Diego Villarreal was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Villarreal wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Daniel Carrillo, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Raul Navarro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Chavez's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Taft, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-8.

Taft's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chavez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349.
