The Lamar Thunder are taking a road trip to square off against the Brush Beetdiggers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Lamar's offense. They came up short against Rocky Ford on Thursday, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Thunder were not able to get on the board.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brush, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Weld Central on Thursday as they made off with a 13-1 victory. Considering the Beetdiggers have won 11 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Elizabeth Peckham made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Jolie Tuck was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braelynn Smith, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Brush pushed their record up to 15-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Lamar, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lamar hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. However, it's not like Brush struggles in that department as they've averaged .415. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lamar was able to grind out a solid win over Brush when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
