Austin hasn't had much luck against Charlestown recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles will head out to take on the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Austin has given up an average of 12.5 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Austin fell victim to Salem and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Lions, falling 14-0.
Meanwhile, Charlestown never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Jeffersonville with a sharp 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Emma Perez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tiarra Wilkes was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ella Shaw was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Charlestown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Austin's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Charlestown, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Austin's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's game. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Charlestown, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Austin continue to outrun the ball?
Austin might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Charlestown when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
