Ozona is 2-7 against Sonora since August of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Lions will head out to take on the Broncos at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Ozona comes in on six and Sonora on four.
Ozona is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Reagan County 94-16 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

It was another big night for Christian Villarreal, who rushed for 296 yards and six scores while picking up 18.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 113 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Michael Preddy, who threw for 180 yards and three TDs on only nine passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ozona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 486 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 196 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.
Ozona didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Valentino Castillo, Jp Garza, and Andon Glosson picked up one apiece. Garza got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Sonora against Forsan on Friday as the team secured a 42-8 win. That's two games straight that the Broncos have won by exactly 34 points.
The critical scores for Sonora came from Wyatt Killough, Acea Gomez, Jayden Welborn, Angel Diaz, Armani Coronado, and Jose Guerra.
Sonora's defense made their presence known, laying out Coy Evans five times. Gomez was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Ozona's record is now 6-0. As for Sonora, their record now sits at 5-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Ozona has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 481.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sonora struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 197.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ozona took their victory against Sonora in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 30-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
