The Las Lomas Knights will take on the Saint Mary's Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Las Lomas came out on top against Albany on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Knights walked away with a 6-3 win over the Cougars. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Jimmy Salinas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Salinas was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Wright, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Jackson Murphy was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
While Saint Mary's didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against University by a score of 15-10 on Tuesday.
Cooper Nitsan looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
Saint Mary's was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .432. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Saint Mary's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Las Lomas, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Las Lomas hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Saint Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Las Lomas was able to grind out a solid win over Saint Mary's in their previous matchup back in February of 2025, winning 4-1. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
