On Thursday, the DC International Dragons faced the Anacostia Indians in a battle between two of the state's top teams. DC International sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 34-31 win over Anacostia. Winning may never get old, but DC International sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
DC International's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eva Waters, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Waters has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karter Kundera, who scored four points.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ta'shaun Robinson, who scored eight points. Nayjah Duvall was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
DC International has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Anacostia, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DC International will take on Idea at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Idea's defense has only allowed 22.3 points per game this season, so DC International's offense will have their work cut out for them. Anacostia will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Coolidge at 5:30 p.m. on January 29th. Coolidge will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
