The Deer Valley Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 13th straight loss. They were beaten by Freedom 57-27. While losing is never fun, Deer Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1014th, while Freedom is ranked 452nd).
Freedom was led to victory by Anisa Blalock and Eve Monzon. Blalock scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Monzon scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Blalock has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaeden Alday, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Deer Valley dropped their record down to 1-14 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Freedom, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-14 record this season.
Deer Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Freedom will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Monte Vista at 5:30 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Freedom focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
