Baseball Recap: Coastal Homeschool Wins Going Away Against the Habersham School

While Coastal HomeSchool put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for The Habersham School. Coastal HomeSchool put the hurt on The Habersham School with a sharp 10-0 win. That's two games straight that the Hurricanes have won by exactly ten runs.

Troy DeVoe and Burke Sullivan made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, DeVoe pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sullivan didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.1 innings pitched. What's more, DeVoe gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last seven games. At bat, DeVoe scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Sullivan scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. DeVoe has become a key player for Coastal HomeSchool: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jace Poppell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Coastal HomeSchool's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't). Carson Little was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Coastal HomeSchool kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.

Coastal HomeSchool pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for The Habersham School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Coastal HomeSchool will welcome Robert Toombs Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for The Habersham School, they will head out to challenge Hilton Head Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
