Video: Catcher Hits in Full Gear and Bat Upside Down
See a high school batter have a little weird fun at the plateWil Myers has gone from small school standout to starring in the 2016 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby.
Myers claimed MaxPreps 2009 Small Schools All-American Player of the Year honors in his senior season. He hit for an impressive .532 average and belted 14 home runs at
Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.). Myers also was a four-time all-state selection and nabbed a state title his junior year.
Shortly following his senior season, the boy with the "it" factor finally made his dream come true. Myers was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 91st overall pick in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft.
The rest is history.
Myers earned the American League Rookie of the year award as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2013 before being traded to the San Diego Padres in December of 2014.
Tonight, the Padres stud right fielder and first-time all-star will test his skills against baseball's top
sluggers at Petco Park. Check out some photos of him during his prep days, way back in 2009.
