The Cabrillo Conquistadores have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 48-37 to Carlmont on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Cabrillo came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Carlmont is ranked 559th).
When it comes to explaining why Cabrillo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Rylie Jenkins. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven steals. That's the first time this season that Jenkins scored 15 or more points. Angeliyah Gonzalez was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Cabrillo's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Carlmont, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cabrillo will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mission College Prep at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. Carlmont will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Aragon at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th.
