Makayla Castaneda and Abigail Malak certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Castaneda posted 24 points, while Malak earned 16 points. Malak's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniah Lomas, who had six points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Perris to victory, but perhaps none more so than E'Niece Ray, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 22 rebounds. Those 22 boards gave Ray a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Carina Castaneda, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards.
West Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Perris, their win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-4.
West Valley will take on Citrus Hill in a holiday battle at at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Perris, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 40-38 defeat against Elsinore on the 13th.
