The Cabrillo Conquistadores will be playing at home against the El Diamante Miners at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Friday, Cabrillo earned a 38-28 win over San Luis Obispo. Given Cabrillo's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while San Luis Obispo is ranked 383rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jasmyn Hughes was nothing short of spectacular: she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Rylie Jenkins, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, El Diamante can now show off 13 landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Golden West 73-26 on the road. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 19 more assists than your opponent, as El Diamante did.
El Diamante's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reyna Soto, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. Rian Jones-dillihunt was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals.
Cabrillo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. As for El Diamante, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cabrillo have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like El Diamante struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
