Foothill had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 4-10 to make it six. They lost 12-1 to the Leroy Greene Academy Lions. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Foothill got a good showing from Ryder Meredith, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Meredith has allowed since back in February.
On the hitting side, Foothill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaylin Blackwell, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
As for Leroy Greene Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Considering they have won five games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
On Leroy Greene Academy's side, Phil Jones made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Leroy Greene Academy is undefeated when Jones allows two or fewer earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Jones was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Josiah Ochoa and James VonSchoech did most of the damage at the plate: Ochoa went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while VonSchoech got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Lucas Figeroa was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, Foothill will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Leroy Greene Academy, they will square off against Rosemont at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
