There's no place like home for the Torres Toros, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-38 win over Sunnyside on Tuesday. That's another feather in the cap for Torres, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Torres to victory were Sabrina Cerrillo and J'Lynn Mitchell. Cerrillo scored 15 points along with six steals and five assists, while Mitchell dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. Cerrillo hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylin Perez, who scored five points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Sunnyside still got an impressive performance from Ruby Cartwright, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Sunnyside's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Torres' win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Sunnyside, they dropped their record down to 7-12 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Torres will take on Sanger West at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sanger West will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 964th, while Torres is ranked 415th). As for Sunnyside, they will be playing at home against Hoover at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
