After a string of six wins, the Steele Canyon Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a serious blow against Bonita Vista, falling 61-28. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Steele Canyon has scored all season.
Bonita Vista found their leader in underclassman Bayanai Cordova, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Cordova has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Mahliya Wilson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Steele Canyon's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-7. As for Bonita Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season.
Steele Canyon and El Cajon Valley will face off at 5:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. El Cajon Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1132nd, while Steele Canyon is ranked 342nd). As for Bonita Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Eastlake at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
