Animo Leadership dropped their record down to 12-12 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 5-1 to the Environmental Charter White Tigers. The Aztec Eagles were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the White Tigers' pitchers proved too tough.
Axel Serrano was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
As for Environmental Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.2 runs over those games.
On Environmental Charter's side, Daniel Avilla was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Avilla a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Leanos, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Coming up, Animo Leadership will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Ambassador at 2:00 p.m. As for Environmental Charter, they will be taking part in a tournament against Rancho Dominguez at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
