The Rockwood Rockets will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Aquinas Academy Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rockwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 291st, while Aquinas Academy is ranked 31st).
Last Friday, Rockwood strolled past Meyersdale with points to spare, taking the game 50-32. The win was just what Rockwood needed coming off of a 59-30 loss in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, even though St. Joseph scored an imposing 62 points on Monday, Aquinas Academy still came out on top. Aquinas Academy snuck past St. Joseph with a 66-62 victory. The win was just what Aquinas Academy needed coming off of a 78-52 loss in their prior game.
Aquinas Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellie Junker led the charge by scoring 17 points along with five rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Tess Duer, who scored 11 points.
Rockwood has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Aquinas Academy's record now sits at 7-1.
Rockwood took a serious blow against Aquinas Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 61-27. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Rockwood was down 37-16.
