The Bishop Canevin Crusaders are on the road again on Thursday and play against the Quaker Valley Quakers at 6:00 p.m. on December 28th. Bishop Canevin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 535th, while Quaker Valley is ranked 238th).
Bishop Canevin pushed their score all the way to 56 two weeks ago, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were beaten by Avonworth 88-56.
Meanwhile, Quaker Valley had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past Ambridge 82-61. Quaker Valley's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Quaker Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Coyle led the charge by scoring 24 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. The match was Coyle's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Cox-Giles, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Bishop Canevin has fallen quite a ways from their 22-8 record last season and are now at 1-4. As for Quaker Valley, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Bishop Canevin came up short against Quaker Valley in their previous matchup back in January of 2021, falling 51-47. Can Bishop Canevin avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
