Last Friday, Sabine Pass was beaten by Lovelady 64-7. While losing is never fun, Sabine Pass can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1202nd, while Lovelady is ranked 514th).
Meanwhile, Deweyville put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hull-Daisetta 52-14 on the road. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Deweyville just coasted through the last quarter.
Deweyville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Elijah Curl, who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and Cj Milton, who rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Milton was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 66 yards.
Sabine Pass' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 2.3 points per game. As for Deweyville, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Sabine Pass was taken down by Deweyville 62-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Sabine Pass avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
