Newman Central Catholic has gone a perfect 4-0 against Amboy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Comets will take on the Clippers at 4:30 p.m. Newman Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

Newman Central Catholic's last matchup with Bishop McNamara could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Saturday. The Comets came up short against the Fightin' Irish, falling 18-2. The Comets' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Ashton Miner made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Amboy got the win against Milledgeville on Thursday by a conclusive 9-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Clippers.

Carson Barlow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Landon Carter and Quinn Leffelman did most of the damage at the plate: Carter got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Leffelman went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three runs gave Carter a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Shugars, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Newman Central Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 22-4-1. As for Amboy, they now have a winning record of 11-10.

Amboy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Newman Central Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Amboy, though, as they've only averaged .247. Will they be able to contain Newman Central Catholic's hitters?

Newman Central Catholic took their win against Amboy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
