The Cameron County Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 49-31 bruising from Port Allegany. While losing is never fun, Cameron County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while Port Allegany is ranked 275th).
Elsie Bresslin and Trinity Earle certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Bresslin scored 11 points along with eight rebounds, while Earle scored eight points along with 11 rebounds. Earle hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Cameron County struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Port Allegany racked up ten assists.
Port Allegany's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ella Moses led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Evens, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Cameron County has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Port Allegany, they pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cameron County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Kane at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Kane is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games. As for Port Allegany, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Galeton at 7:30 p.m. Galeton comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 17 points in their last ten games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
