It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Tulelake Honkers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They managed a 46-42 victory over Surprise Valley. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Tulelake also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Tulelake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kayla Frey, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Frey also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Makenzie Perez, who scored 15 points along with three steals and two blocks.
Surprise Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Adelia Martinez, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Martinez scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Berthea Townsend, who scored 12 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Tulelake and bumps their season record up to 8-11. As for Surprise Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
Tulelake will head out on the road to take on Hayfork at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Hayfork is ranked 1007th, while Tulelake is ranked 1021st). As for Surprise Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burney at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Burney focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
