Even though the Verdugo Hills Dons have not done well against the Poly Parrots recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Verdugo Hills walked away with a 41-31 victory over Poly. The win made it back-to-back wins for Verdugo Hills.
Verdugo Hills was led to victory by Rayleen Castanos and Amiyya Castanos. Castanos dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds, while Castanos scored 15 points along with eight steals and three blocks. Castanos has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Nicole Olivera was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Poly still got an impressive performance from Hannah Lising, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 35.5% of Poly's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Verdugo Hills' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. As for Poly, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.
Verdugo Hills will look to defend their home court on Friday against Arleta at 7:00 p.m. Poly will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Grant at 3:00 p.m. on January 26th. Grant will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 882nd, while Poly is ranked 269th).
