Hopewell-Loudon is 8-1 against Calvert since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Senecas at 5:00 p.m. Hopewell-Loudon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Hopewell-Loudon narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Columbian 3-1. The Chieftains haven't had any issues with the Tornadoes recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Araceli Velasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sidney Brickner, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Calvert waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged out the Golden Bears 4-2. That's two games straight that the Senecas have won by exactly two runs.
Ava Eilrich made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Eilrich was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Eilrich wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison King, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Calvert's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their record is now 11-6.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hopewell-Loudon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Calvert struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hopewell-Loudon might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Calvert in their previous meeting on April 4th. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
