The 2023 high school football season in Oregon kicks off later this month and MaxPreps has your look at the state's top teams. Defending Class 6A state champion
West Linn owns the No. 1 spot in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
After winning Washington state titles at Camas in 2016 and 2019, head coach Jon Eagle hopped the river and immediately won a championship in his first season at West Linn. His teams at the two schools are 139-23 over the past 14 seasons.
Last year's Lions averaged 47.4 points per game behind state POY Sam Leavitt, who is now a freshman quarterback at Michigan State. West Linn scored 50 or more in five straight games last October and November.
The Lions open Aug. 31 against
Nelson (Happy Valley) before traveling to
Sheldon (Eugene), the only team to knock them off in 2022 and No. 2 in our Oregon Preseason MaxPreps Top 25.
In addition to West Linn, other defending 11-man state champions include
Summit (Bend) in Class 5A,
Estacada in 4A and
Cascade Christian (Medford) in 3A.
