Stockbridge is 1-9 against Jones County since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Stockbridge Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Jones County Greyhounds at 6:00 p.m. Stockbridge will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
While Stockbridge's win against Woodland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Stockbridge narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Woodland 12-11.
Brycen Norman-Jimil was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Dereck Foster was a standout: he scored a run and stole Five bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Rod Hall, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-5.
Stockbridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Jones County hadn't done well against Union Grove recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Jones County came out on top against Union Grove by a score of 12-7. The high-scoring effort was just what the Greyhounds needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Cason Taylor made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Taylor was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other pitching news, Jones County got a great performance from Dalton Lowe as he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits.
Back at the plate, Jonathan Scarbary was incredible, going 3-for-6 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Noah Robinson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one stolen base.
Jones County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. Stockbridge's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-8.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Stockbridge has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Jones County struggles in that department as they've averaged .495. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stockbridge might still be hurting after the 14-3 loss they got from Jones County in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can Stockbridge avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
