The Mercer County Golden Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Brimfield Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mercer County 3.7, Brimfield 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Mercer County will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Mendota on Saturday. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-1 victory. Considering the Golden Eagles have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Elsie Cook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Mercer County got a massive performance out of Jayden Weeks, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kelsie Weeks, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Brimfield waltzed into their game on Friday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 6-2.
Brimfield's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addison Pryzbylo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Brimfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Heyworth struck out eight times.
Brimfield's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 26-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mercer County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That somehow still isn't as good as their 20-6 record this season.
Mercer County might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Brimfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
