The Erie Royals won the last time they faced the North East Grape Pickers, and things went their way on Monday too. Erie walked away with a 53-42 win over North East. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Erie.
Erie's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Deaja Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Williams. Aubrey Neavins was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
When it comes to explaining why North East lost, one person who can't be blamed is Alexandra Cozzens. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Cozzens set a new season high mark in blocks with three. Another player making a difference was Kayla Forsythe, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Erie's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for North East, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie will take on McDowell at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North East, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Northwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday.
