The Cahokia Comanches will stay at home for another game and welcome the Mt. Vernon Rams at 6:00 p.m. on December 14th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Cahokia was able to grind out a solid victory over Belleville West, taking the game 51-43. The victory was just what Cahokia needed coming off of a 78-33 loss in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Carbondale 55-40. Given Mt. Vernon's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Carbondale is ranked 452nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mt. Vernon to victory, but perhaps none more so than Melaina Zedalis, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. The contest was Zedalis' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tiara Johnson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Cahokia's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Mt. Vernon, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Cahokia couldn't quite finish off Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in February and fell 2-0. Can Cahokia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
