The Northview Vikings will take on the Paraclete Spirits in a tournament on Tuesday. Northview's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Paraclete's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Northview is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Central Valley on Monday as they made off with a 13-5 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Vikings' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Josh Correa looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Ezekiel Martinez was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Jayden Chagollan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Northview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Paraclete fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Beckman on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 4-3. The Spirits' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Ian Kuenzi was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lucas Morrison made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Logan, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Paraclete's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Northview, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-11 record.
