The Roosevelt Roughriders will head out to challenge the Fossil Ridge SaberCats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Roosevelt comes in on three and Fossil Ridge on four.
Roosevelt proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 12) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Thompson Valley.
Luke Unruh was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Fossil Ridge put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. Everything went their way against Rock Canyon as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the SaberCats, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brek Benedict looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Fossil Ridge got a massive performance out of Brady Bradford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Bradford a new career-high. Mason Griffin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Fossil Ridge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Fossil Ridge's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Roosevelt, their record is now 12-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Roosevelt has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Fossil Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
