Basketball Recap: Christopher Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Win

Christopher entered their tilt with Aptos on Friday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They rang in the new year with a 39-28 win over the Aptos Mariners. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 182nd, while the Mariners are ranked 511th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Mariners players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eliya Chavez, who posted 12 points and six rebounds. That's the most boards Chavez has posted since back in February of 2024. Abby Sherwood was another key player, putting up six points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Christopher's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1. As for Aptos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.

Christopher will face off against Branham at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aptos, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Prospect at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Prospect will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Aptos surely won't give up without a fight.
