The Point Loma Pointers will head out on the road to face off against the Rancho Bernardo Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Point Loma's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Thursday, when they got past Torrey Pines' usually-dominant pitching crew. Point Loma blew past Torrey Pines 11-1. With that win, the Pointers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Marviel Underwood tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Reddeg, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Adrian Gomez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rancho Bernardo). Everything went their way against Maranatha Christian on Thursday as Rancho Bernardo made off with an 18-2 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Lucas Batrez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, NATHAN BEMBENEK was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of HUGO GONZALEZ, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Rancho Bernardo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maranatha Christian struck out 12 times.
The victory made it two in a row for Point Loma and bumps their season record up to 7-2. The team dominated over those games too, winning by an average of 8.5 runs. As for Rancho Bernardo, they moved to 4-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Point Loma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Rancho Bernardo struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Point Loma couldn't quite get it done against Rancho Bernardo in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 9-6. Can Point Loma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
