The Morro Bay Pirates will challenge the Exeter Monarchs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Morro Bay 3.9, Exeter 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While Morro Bay didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Santa Maria on Thursday as they made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Pirates have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Evan Davis was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three doubles, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quentin Crotts, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Davis wasn't the only one making solid contact: Morro Bay kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Maria only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Exeter fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hanford West on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 9-8. The Monarchs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cade McElmoyl put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
McElmoyl wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Madden Pasos, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Morro Bay has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Exeter, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Morro Bay hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Exeter struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
