Baseball Recap: Hemet Has No Trouble Against Perris

Hemet was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Perris on Friday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Bulldogs have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jhaydon Ruiz and Jack Mapstead were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ruiz pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Mapstead kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ruiz went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Mapstead got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Mapstead has posted since back in March.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ezekiel Mendoza, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Hemet has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Perris, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season.

Hemet didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-4 loss against Rancho Verde on the 29th. As for Perris, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-2 defeat against Canyon Springs on the 29th.
