The Colony Titans will face off against the Victor Valley Jackrabbits at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Colony has five straight victories, Victor Valley has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Colony got the win against Oxford Academy by a conclusive 14-1. Considering the Titans have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Michael Huicochea tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adrian Sifuentes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-6. Those hits marked the first that he got this season. Angel Serna was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Colony always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Victor Valley fell victim to Silverado and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. The game marked the first time this season in which the Jackrabbits were not able to get on the board.
Tyler Aguilar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk).
Colony's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Victor Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Victor Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Colony hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. It's a different story for Victor Valley, though, as they've only averaged .212. Will they be able to contain Colony's hitters?
Everything went Colony's way against Victor Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Colony made off with a 9-1 victory. Will the Titans repeat their success, or do the Jackrabbits have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
