Last Thursday, Mountain Empire was able to grind out a solid win over Gompers Prep Academy, taking the game 38-29.
Among those leading the charge was Carli McGhee, who scored 19 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Mountain Empire's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aisha Acevedo, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, San Diego Academy came up short against Gompers Prep Academy on Tuesday and fell 40-30. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for San Diego Academy in their matchups with Gompers Prep Academy: they've now lost three in a row.
Mountain Empire's victory bumped their record up to 5-13. As for San Diego Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
Things could have been worse for Mountain Empire, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 31-13 loss to San Diego Academy when the teams last played back in January.
